Skopje, 13 July 2020 (MIA) – US Ambassador to North Macedonia Kate Marie Byrnes said Monday that she could not say anything about the voter turnout in the upcoming parliamentary elections held during a pandemic in the country. However, she hopes that the protective measures put in place and the US donation of protective equipment will encourage voters to exercise their democratic right.

“We will have to see about the voter turnout just like everybody else. We are encouraged by the protective measures that we have seen put in place, by the excellent communications that have been conducted by the government to encourage voters to exercise their democratic right and options and to do so safely and in healthy environment. We certainly hope that will be the case on election days, actually beginning today. We will just have to wait and see. We are proud that we have been able to help by providing this equipment and I hope that helps ensure some of the citizens of confidence in these excellent measures,” Byrnes told reporters after handover of US donation consisted of protective masks and disinfectants to the State Election Commission.
