At least four people have been killed and 120 others injured in a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in the western Turkish city of Izmir, the country's disaster authority AFAD says.

At least four people have been killed and 120 others injured in a 6.6-magnitude earthquake in the western Turkish city of Izmir, the country’s disaster authority AFAD says.

The quake struck at 3:01 pm (1201 GMT) at a depth of 16.5 kilometres in Izmir’s Seferihisar district, triggering a sea surge. It was followed by 19 aftershocks, according to AFAD.

At least five buildings collapsed and four people were rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed seven-storey building in Bayrakli district, state broadcaster TRT said.
