Skopje, 22 January 2021 (MIA) — Turkey will help North Macedonia implement an agricultural insurance system modeled after the Turkish one (TARSIM), according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy in a press release.
North Macedonia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy, Arianit Hoxha, and the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Naser Nuredini, met with TARSIM representatives on Thursday to discuss the details.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, working groups of experts from both sides will be formed to begin the process of establishing North Macedonia’s agricultural insurance system.
This kind of system, the release says, offers a long-term solution to problems arising from natural disasters and climate change while also promoting the country’s insurance sector.
“Climate change is a serious threat to agricultural production and we need an organized approach to adapt to it as well as protect our agricultural products through insuring them,” the release reads.
Meeting participants included the General Manager of TARSIM, Serpil Günal; Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry representative Bekir Engürülü; and members of the TARSIM board of directors. mr/
