Zagreb, 11 July 2020 (Hina/MIA) – Fourteen police officers and 19 demonstrators were injured during an anti-government demonstration in Belgrade on Friday evening, and 71 protesters were arrested, including nationals of Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain and Tunisia, police chief Vladimir Rebic said on Saturday.
“Serbia offered them hospitality and they came to destroy and attack the police,” Rebic said, adding that those arrested were facing legal action.
He said that dozens of police officers had been injured during the four evenings of protests and 130 had sought medical attention.
The police are now going through video footage to identify the attackers, including the people who attacked reporters, press photographers and camera operators, at least three of whom have been seriously injured.
Friday’s demonstration started peacefully but turned violent around 9 pm when about a hundred aggressive protesters attempted to force their way into the National Assembly building, prompting a police response.
