Brussels, 27 November 2020 (dpa/MIA) – International investigators have detained 45 people in an unprecedented raid against a suspected drug ring in Brazil, Dubai and several European countries.
The operation involved around 180 house searches, European police authority Europol announced on Friday in The Hague. More than 1,000 police officers were deployed as part to conduct them.
Most of the arrests took place in Brazil, while some were carried out in Spain, Belgium and Dubai, Europol said.
The network is said to be responsible for importing at least 45 tons of cocaine per year into European ports.
According to Europol, profits accrued by the drug ring stood at over 100 million euros (120 million dollars) in just six months.
In Brazil alone, 37 aircraft and 160 properties were confiscated. Investigators also seized 37 luxury cars across a number of jurisdictions.
In Portugal, police officers discovered more than 12 million euros in cash.
