Prilep, 14 September 2019 (MIA) – The Prilep region brush fires are all under control, many of them completely extinguished, according to Prilep’s Fire Department chief Viktor Stojcheski.
“There’s an active fire near Rilevo village, but it’s under control. Our teams are extinguishing the other fires, too, with help from the public companies,” Stojcheski said. “We’re also grateful to the firefighters from Krushevo, Bitola, and Kavadarci.”
Over 100 firefighters have been working on putting out the fires, in which brush and small trees were burning over 300-400 hectares of land on Friday.
Although Stojcheski wouldn’t say the fires were intentionally set, he said humans were to blame for causing the fires 99 percent of the time.
Prilep Mayor Ilija Jovanoski said the authorities are keeping an eye on the area.
“We stopped traffic for seven hours yesterday,” Jovanoski said. “At this time, the situation is stable.”
When reporters were taking photos near the Prilep-Gradsko highway, a blaze happened to erupt, but firefighters responded immediately. mr/
