Athens, 20 September 2019 (dpa/MIA) – An overnight storm brought hail and heavy rainfall to large parts of Greece, local media reported early Friday.
Police and the fire brigade were called out repeatedly to free people from submerged cars and deal with fallen trees.
Several streets in the port city of Thessaloniki had to be blocked off due to flooding.
Hail in central Greece inflicted damage to the region’s agricultural businesses, ERT state radio reported.
Police said no one was thought to be injured at this stage.
The stormy weather follows a period of drought spanning several months. There had been almost no rain across Greece since May.
