Tel Aviv, 18 September 2019 (dpa/MIA) – Avigdor Liberman, the apparent kingmaker of the Israeli general election, says the only option for his party is a wide national unity government.
“We have only one option – a wide, right-wing liberal national unity government made up of Yisrael Beitenu, Likud and Blue and White,” he says.
As neither the centre-left bloc nor the right-wing and religious bloc appeared to have a clear majority, according to the exit polls, Liberman‘s next steps are critical as he is not included in either.
Though his Yisrael Beitenu party is a far-right one, Liberman refused to join Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government after the April election, over disagreements with the ultra-Orthodox parties.
The centrist Blue and White has said it will not sit with the right-wing Likud as long as it is led by Netanyahu. Netanyahu has said he will form a right-wing and religious government.
