Strumica, 22 April 2019 (MIA) – The invalid 103 ballots are the reason that a new Novo Selo mayor has not been elected at Sunday’s early elections.
VMRO-DPMNE candidate Nikolcho Stoilkov received 2,753 votes, while SDSM’s Nikola Andonov was supported by 2,693 citizens.
The Municipal Election Commission said Stoilkov did not get the required fifty percent plus one votes for a win in the first round because of the invalid ballot, resulting in a May 5 runoff.
Turnout at yesterday’s elections stood at 49.1 percent.
The Novo Selo early mayoral elections take place after former mayor Boro Stojchev resigned because he was sentenced to prison for cigarette smuggling.
