Astronomers with the international Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project unveil the first-ever image of a black hole, advancing the understanding of one of the most mysterious objects in the universe.

Washington, 10 April 2019 (MIA/dpa) – Astronomers with the international Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project unveil the first-ever image of a black hole, advancing the understanding of one of the most mysterious objects in the universe.

“We are delighted to report to you that we have seen what we thought was unseeable,” says Shep Doeleman, an astrophysicist with the EHT project, during the Washington press conference for the announcement.

Doeleman said over 200 people in 20 countries worked on the project to photograph the black hole, which appears as a bright orange ring. It is located in the centre of the massive elliptical galaxy M87.
